KCLS Collabo

Written by Alexis, WCTP Recreation Aide

The Recreation Aide program at the Log Cabin supports the community by providing recreational activities to local youth. In Winter Quarter 2026, the Log Cabin Rec Aides are putting together arts and craft projects for the White Center Library’s Story Time.

One week the White Center Library read 2 books for storytime including, “The Pout-Pout Fish” and “Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus.” Rec Aides came together to find and create crafts based on each book, aiming to provide a creative and fun activity for the kids to go along with their reading.

Other arts and crafts have supported popular stories including:

  • How Are You? ¿Cómo Estás? by Dominguez
  • Hush Little Rocket by O’Hara
  • This Is Not a Sleepy Bear Book by Gehrlein

“We try to consider what the kids would enjoy the most,” one Rec Aide shared. The team carefully selects arts and crafts that are not only entertaining and relevant to the stories, but also perfectly suited to the children’s developmental capabilities.

The White Center Library Story Time schedules can be found here:

Additional KCLS story times can be found at: Story Times | King County Library System. The library also has other programs including various recreational events with games, kids and teens homework help, study zone, and more. Visit K-12 | King County Library System for more information and dates.

The Log Cabin’s Rec Aide program is dedicated to fostering community creativity! Rec Aides are excited to continue teaming up with the White Center Library to create custom crafts for several upcoming story time sessions. Enormous thanks to Librarian Destinee for the ongoing partnership as well as all the cute photos of the crafts in action!
