Steve Cox Memorial Park

Park Features

This 12-acre park is one of the first in King County’s System and offers an all-ages playground; outdoor drop-in basketball/ volleyball courts; Mel Olson (1,200 seat) Stadium with baseball field; multi-purpose field lined for soccer,  lacrosse, and youth baseball; walking path; drop-in tennis courts; picnic shelter; learning garden, and a foot reflexology walking path.

FREE Daily WC Community drop-in hour (with lights) on the multi-purpose field from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.  (WCTP staff help facilitate daily drop in.)  

FREE Summer Sack Lunch Program for ages 18 and under (offered in partnership with Highline School District and King County Library System) with art and other recreation activities Monday through Friday from noon to 2 p.m. between June 26 to August 18. 

Picnic Shelter Rentals

Groups of 35 or more are required to book a picnic shelter (per King County Code Chapter 7.12.030 Rules for Use of Facilities)

Shelters are rented in blocks of time: 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. or 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Weekend rates apply to Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Additional fees may apply depending on the size and needs of each event.

Fun facts provided by the WCTP Rec Aides about the plants that are planted at Steve Cox Memorial Park (1321 SW 102nd St White Center, WA 98146). Plants featured include: Western Red Cedar (Thuja Plicata), Western Hemlock (Tsuga Heterophylla), Pacific Dogwood (Cornus Nuttallii), Ocean spray (Holodiscus Discolor), Vine Maple (Acer Circinatum), Indian Plum (Oemleria Cerasiformis), Salal (Gaultheria Shallon), Sword Fern (Polystichum Munitum), Yarrow (Achillea Millefolium), Dagger-leaf Rush (Juncus Ensifolius), Common Rush (Juncus Effusus Pacificus.)

Historic White Center Fieldhouse at Steve Cox Memorial Park

The fieldhouse is a historical landmark building constructed as a Works Progress Administration project in 1938.  Currently, it is home to the White Center Community Center.

Eight Fieldhouses were constructed throughout King County by the Works Progress Administration between 1938-1940.  Five of those WPA fieldhouses are still standing in their original locations today:

– Enumclaw Fieldhouse
– DesMoines Fieldhouse
– Preston Community Center

Available rental times

– Sundays from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
– Some Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to noon
– Mondays (September – May) from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
– Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays (September – May) from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Other White Center Parks

Dick Thurnau Memorial Park

This 33-acre park is home to a disc golf course, Bethaday Learning Center (built in partnership with the Technology Access Foundation), a traditional playground, a bicycle playground, three picnic shelters, and Hicklin Lake.

White Center Heights Park

In 2007, King County Parks carried out a community-led park renovation with the support of Starbucks Coffee Company adding many amenities to this 6-acre park including raised garden beds available to community members (and managed by the WC Foodbank), picnic shelter, walking path, play field, pig- roasting pit, amphitheater, and wetland area accessed by a bridge over the pond.  King County Parks Restoration Team, Volunteer Team and Jobs and Housing Crew all conduct ongoing restoration and volunteer projects in the park. 

North Shorewood Park

Opened in 1971, this neighborhood park features a playground, basketball court, and open play field.  Several acres of the 6.25-acre park are wooded and have interesting nature trails.  King County Parks Restoration Team, Volunteer Team and Jobs and Housing Crew all conduct ongoing restoration and volunteer projects in the park.  

Glendale Forest

A new five-acre forested park in the Glendale neighborhood of North Highline. The park encompasses a wooded ravine with a stream flowing north toward the Duwamish River. Soon, there will be a new walking trail through the forest, delivered in partnership with the Washington Trails Association’s “The Trail Next Door” program.
