Spring Structured Programs at the Cab

Written by Vana, Ridwan and Frank

Within the four walls of the Log Cabin teens can almost always find drop-in programs like Basketball, Homework Help, and Ping Pong. But did you know there’s also an entire lineup of popular classes offered daily each quarter by teen program staff? Structured programs have set times and days to ensure teens know what activities are available on a specific day and time of the week. IE – most everyone can tell you that Middle School Basketball is offered on Wednesdays at 6pm and that Volleyball runs every Friday starting at 3pm.

WCTP structured programming provides a variety of fun learning activities to develop life-long skills, build teamwork amongst participants, and set individual goals. 2024 Spring programs include soccer, flag football, volleyball, 8ball pool, table tennis, chess, arts/crafts, ceramics, STEM, garden club, middle school basketball and homework help. Two of the most popular spring structures right now at the Log Cabin are Burnt Toast (Tuesday and Thursday at 5-8pm) and Jeopardy (Thursday at 6-8pm).

Burnt Toast (with Chef Frank) sets teens up for a well-rounded and balanced meal at the Log Cabin. Teens often tell Frank how good his cooking is, and somehow they also find ways to scoop up a second serving.  During Burnt Toast, Frank shows teens how to properly chop and prep ingredients before the actual cooking process starts. There’s also a fair bit of math involved to ensure there is always enough food to feed the many teens in the downstairs game room. Fun Fact about Log Cabin Chef Frank: Frank was a pervious teen at the Log Cabin before becoming a teen staff. Now Frank is the teens go to chef!

Ridwan runs Jeopardy every Thursday. She never imagined Jeopardy would become so popular when she first decided to incorporate it into her structure. And yet, it’s become quite a hit among teens at the cabin. Creating the Jeopardy board has become a fun project for her, that constantly introduces her to interesting new facts. The games room is always packed full of teenagers engaging in the trivia at hand and they find it educational in every round they play. It’s always rewarding when the teens recall fun facts afterward, for instance, can you name a popular POP BOY GROUP with 13 members? Most everyone at the Log Cabin can.
